Leadership Development – Community Services

BUSHkids is deeply committed to valuing and investing in our people. We actively grow and support our leaders so they can deliver the best possible outcomes for children, families and communities. The Trevor-Roberts Leadership programs are strengthening our organisational capability, with leaders stepping up with confidence and impact. The programs are engaging, motivating and making a tangible difference to how we lead and deliver services.

Background

The organisation

BUSHkids is a not-for-profit organisation that has supported the health and wellbeing of children and families across regional, rural and remote Queensland for more than 90 years. The organisation provides free preventative aand early intervention allied health services to families who would otherwise struggle to access support locally.

With teams spread across geographically dispersed communities, leadership capability plays a critical role in maintaining strong service delivery, collaboration and culture across the organisation.

The need

As BUSHkids continued to grow, the organisation identified the need to strengthen leadership capability across its leadership pipeline.

Leaders were operating across multiple locations and managing complex service delivery environments. BUSHkids wanted to build a shared leadership language, support emerging leaders stepping into leadership roles and provide experienced leaders with space to reflect and strengthen their leadership practice.

The organisation was looking for a leadership development partner who could design a practical program that would work across geographically dispersed teams while remaining grounded in everyday leadership challenges.

What we delivered

Trevor-Roberts partnered with BUSHkids to design and deliver a multi-year leadership development pathway supporting leaders at different stages of their leadership journey.

In 2025, the program included two leadership streams:

  • Leadership Essentials for emerging leaders
  • Advanced Leadership for more experienced leaders

Across the program, 60 leaders participated in a development journey combining:

  • in-person workshops
  • self-paced learning modules
  • facilitated Leadership Labs
  • on-the-job leadership experiments
  • individual leadership coaching

The program focused on helping leaders reflect on their leadership impact, test new behaviours in their day-to-day roles and strengthen connections across the organisation.

Outcomes

Leaders across BUSHkids reported stronger confidence, clearer leadership identity and more intentional leadership behaviours.

Key outcomes included:

  • increased confidence to lead and influence others
  • stronger self-awareness and leadership reflection
  • improved communication and collaboration across locations
  • greater consistency in leadership language and practice

The partnership continues as BUSHkids moves into the next stage of its leadership development journey, building leadership capability across the organisation and supporting the teams who serve children and families across Queensland.
